Apprenticed instruction in the making and maintenance of high-quality, healthful, bespoke shoe- and boot-making, providing in-depth understanding of measuring, patterning, making, and fitting skills under the tutelage of a Master Cordwainer and senior apprentices. Related instruction in lastmaking (viz., the making of wooden shoe forms, or lasts) and leather-currying will be featured. An emphasis upon a thorough understanding of the properties of leather and other materials, and an elementary understanding of the anatomy of the foot and elementary principle of podiatry will be part of this apprenticeship. Occasional field-experience trips to related manufactures and to study historical examples will be offered.
