Apprenticed instruction in the metal arts of blacksmithing, whitesmithing (viz., highly finished blacksmithing, and cutlery. A well-rounded experience of making and maintenance of iron and steel tools, architectural ironwork, knives and other edged tools, and other metal goods will be taught, using time-honoured and traditional techniques. An emphasis will be placed on a thorough understanding of metallurgy, forge design, and various heat-tempering techniques will be taught in this apprenticeship; and regular field-experience trips conducted to study historic examples in museums and structures.
