Apprenticed instruction in traditional design, engineering, and building of timber-framed structures (carpentry) and in the crafting of furniture, architectural elements, and other fine details (joinery), using traditional woodworking techniques. Related experience in the skills of shingling (roofing with wood shakes and shingles) and thatching (roofing with thatch material) will be included in the apprenticeship.  These courses will emphasize a thorough understanding of physical principles and will also feature regular field-experience research and observation trips to historic structures.
